HOSPICE

Eskimo Spy (aka Ryan Terrell) is an electronic producer and DJ from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He grew up in rural Iowa, and started out playing folk and blues on the guitar. He made the logical step to electronica when he first heard “The Richard D. James Album” by Aphex Twin. Always keen to reinvent himself, Eskimo Spy has demonstrated a wide range of styles from drum and bass, to acid jazz, to lo-fi and dub influenced breakbeats. His music has clearly been influenced by the likes of Flying Lotus, Aphex Twin, Mike Paradinas, Massive Attack, Clark, RJD2, and Alias, among many others. He also founded and runs Hospice Media, a record label in the Twin Cities, on which he released his first EP, “So Kimpsey,” in December of 2010.

Eskimo Spy’s first release was serendipitously released during the largest blizzard in recent Minnesota history. The album invokes a feeling of cold and dark, sending shivers throughout. It’s also a mental stimulant. According to Housepet, “This is thinking music.”

Download this album now and you won’t regret it. You can get it for free if you like, but we think it’s worth some money. And if you’re quick, you can get yourself a limited edition print while you’re at it. For $4, that’s a steal. Go ahead, steal from Eskimo Spy. It’s for your own good.

We’re excited to report that Eskimo Spy – that crazy electronic gangster – is set to release some new material this Monday! The EP, titled This Is Hennepin, will help you usher in the first official day of spring with an all new sound.

This is Hennepin also features Matt Nimmo playing keys on three of the four tracks. Matt is a local jazz pianist and friend of the Hospice crew, and we’re super excited that he’s involved. He is a great musician in his own right, so keep an eye out here for more Nimmo news.

So, head on over to the Eskimo Spy Bandcamp page Monday morning (March 21) at 12:01 AM to get the new EP.

Also, if you’re from the twin cities area, there will be an album release show the Friday after the official release date (March 25). Come on down to the Slam Factory to enjoy Eskimo Spy as well as some jazz from our friends in DGK, and some synthetic soundings from Jesse Whitney. We’ll get you more details on this show as they arrive.
